Stop and See the Evening

Blackberry brambles bud
At the edge of the woods,
And up from the grass
Miniature primroses
Unfurl butter-pale petals.

Every evening this spring
Seems to hold surprises—
At the edges of wild and at
The tips of our toes
From the path to entice us.

Do you also find surprises around every corner in springtime? Every day, the world is a shade greener, and new flowers fill the bushes and trees with color, from white wild fruit trees to amethyst redbuds and purple-blue wisteria.

The animals are just as active. The past few days, I’ve found myself dodging turtles in the road and wild ducks in the parking lot. Who knows what’s next?

Keep your eyes peeled, and take a moment to stop and see the evening in all its loveliness, small and great. You never know what beauty is unfurling at the edge of the familiar, from the tiny wild blackberries at the edge of the trees to the even tinier yellow flowers that hide in the grass.
